events in their life, educational background, professional life, marriage, children, and outstanding acheivements.

Purpose of Assignment?

Students will research a famous person, write a 800 to 1000 word essay with in text citations, a bibliography, prepare a powerpoint presentation and then present to the class. You will be writing an essay that will include the following: Introduction Paragraph - grabber, birth/most interesting facts and thesis statement, 1st section - facts about their life, 2nd section - challenges and triumphs in life, 3rd section - why is this person famous/remembered and a conclusion paragraph.  The conclusion should restate the thesis, review major points, and have a thought provoking ending.

 A good example of the type of person to use for this assignment is Elie Wiesel. This is a good model for what is expected of you.  This humanitarian survived the Holocaust and went on to do amazing work throughout his life .  Choose someone that you are interested in, your research will be much more interesting.

    Who to Choose?

    You will go to various websites that list famous people by alphabetical order. You will choose one person whose name (first or last) that begins with the same letter of your first name.
