We will begin by reading the first chapter, "Wash Day", as a class and navigate through this LibGuide together. You will then be placed into literature circles where you and other students will plan reading and response schedules. You will be expected to complete all chapter readings, additional readings and writer's journal responses by the assigned due date. At that time, you will be expected to participate in whole class exchange, dialogue, and an individual final response.

Where to find assignments
Your assignments can be found on the Chapters page. Simply choose the chapter you are working with after reading the chapter. You can find a checklist of all assignments on the Checklist and Rubrics page.
When you see this symbol, your group is expected to hold a discussion about the assigned topic. Sometimes this will be related to a reading from the book or assigned from this guide.
When you see this symbol, you are responsible for recording your own individual response in your writer's notebook. Be sure each entry is labeled with the date and the chapter with which you are working.
