Greece

The students will study the different aspects of Greece as a class. Then they will divide up into the category they want to research more and perform. For the festival they will perform what they have learned for the other language arts classes. Options: theater, war, architecture, mythology/constellations, government- Sparta/Athens, Olympics.

Olympics

They can explain the history of the olympics, why it was created, how it has changed. They can have the audience participate in some of the original olympic games.

Constellations

The students can research astronomy in Greece. They can also make the different constellations with descriptions of the story. Black paper and dots with lights to light up the constellation.

Greek Wars

They can research the different wars. Perhaps build a model of the different soldiers or the trojan horse.

Government

They can talk about the founding of democracy, perhaps dress up like one of the famous philosophers. Talk about the difference between Sparta and Athens. They can also talk about how this has affected our democracy.

Theater

A group of students can study or create their own greek tragedy. They can also make the different masks based on the emotions their part is supposed to convey.

The whole class should read an article on the different aspects we will cover. Then they will divide themselves up in the areas they want to publish.

For the theater, they will research the different plays: Oedipus, Medea, Agaemmnon. Learn the stories and write their own 5-10 minute play. When performing they should make masks and wear togas.
