Composition Notebooks

Vocabulary/Grammar Journals

-- Each student is required to have a composition notebook, separate from their regular class binder, to be used specifically for vocabulary.

-- Everyday we have class, there will be a “word of the day” on the board – 5 words per week. These words are to be copied down in your notebook and STUDIED on a regular basis. The definitions are not merely for memorization. Instead, these words should become part of your every day academic vocabulary – used throughout assignments and conversation. Our goal is to have you hit at least 100 vocabulary words this school year – hopefully more!

** Occasionally, during reading units, you will be asked to contribute 5 words of your own per week – but you will not be tested on those words. They are simply to increase your comprehension of a text.

-- We will have vocabulary quizzes every few weeks, and a  “vocab bee" each semester on the assigned vocabulary. This is a simple daily task that will help enhance your reading and writing skills and prepare you for a continuing education.
