About Mrs. Buckley

Gabrielle "Gabbi" Buckley was born in the coastal small town of Encinitas, California and spent the first two years of her life believing she was a mermaid.  Her parents moved her to Chandler in a house off a dirt road called Elliot where she attended Mesa Public Schools from kindergarten until her senior year of high school.

Upon graduation, she craved the smell of sea salt and the feeling of sand in her toes.  Back to San Diego she went and stayed for five years.  She lived the dream of being able to walk to the beach in five minutes or less and forgot what air conditioning was.  Eventually, she realized that living and dreaming in San Diego are two different worlds.  Plus, she spent more time at the beach than class.

Gabbi moved back to Arizona in 2001 and finished her degree at Grand Canyon University.  Upon graduation, she worked at Chandler High School and came back to Mesa in 2007.  She graduated with her M.Ed. from Northern Arizona University that same year.

She still has a dream of going back to school at ASU in an effort to obtain her PhD in writing...maybe next year!

Working at DHS is like coming home for her.  Once a Mustang, always a Mustang!

Gabbi is married to a social studies teacher and is a stepmom to a wonderful 10 year old named Grace.  As well, she and her family welcomed a baby boy, Renner Knox, on December 8th, 2010.

Gabbi enjoys reading (as all good English teachers do), going to the Arizona Science Center, attending baseball games, shopping at IKEA, and playing Rock Band.

About This Class

I will accept nothing but your best effort!

If you think this is a class that you're going to slack in and succeed, you're mistaken. I try to provide you with the closest experience to college that you will have. I promise that you will learn new techniques and ways to improve your writing than you have had in the past. I will also challenge you to write in genres and modes that you haven't done much of. Will this class become frustrating at times? Yes. Will I accept your excuses for laziness? No! I've done what you try and I did it better. Learn something from me. It makes me feel good about myself...and really, isn't this about me?? :)
