Welcome to Ninth Grade Literature Unit One
The first unit is one on HEROES. A hero is
- A person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life;
- In mythology and legend, a man, often of divine ancestry, who is endowed with great courage and strength, celebrated for his bold exploits, and favored by the gods; or
- a person who is idealized for possessing superior qualities in any field.
We are going to examine all kinds of heroes, ancient and modern, through an examination of various literature, including epic poems, poems, short stories, and nonfiction.
