Here are sample lessons at home that you can use to teach each of the six traits.  These can easily be modified to suit the age of your child.

These are the age appropriate sight words that should be in all good writers' repertoire.

Almost any book can be used to teach the traits. Choose a book which is heavy in the  writing trait you wish to teach.  Books are an excellent resource for modeling the expectations in each trait.

Students can play a variety of interactive games to practice all the parts of speech.  These games are a blast and provide immediate feedback to the player.

Use these mad libs to help your child practice the parts of speech.  Have your child rewrite the mad libs by deleting sentences and adding their own in.
